We have noticed quite a few readers of 3DPrintWise are coming from La Belle France. Perhaps not surprisingly as they have a stellar reputation for art and design.
Fashion and “haut couture” are big business and the French excel at it. Of course they are also famous for creating some of the world’s greatest CAD and solid modelling systems too. Most aeroplanes and many cars were designed on CATIA from Dassault Systèmes and EUCLID by Matra Datavison had a big influence on the modelling industry as well. Let’s not forget that much of this started with Courbe de Bézier and Paul de Casteljau especially.
3D Printing Competition
Any way, back to the plot. We are seeing 3D printing boutiques popping up all over France. Taking a lead from the U.S, U.K. Netherlands and Germany but catching up fast. Competition is hotting up in the 3D printing and additive manufacturing industries for sure.
If you put that French artistic culture and design talent (kind of indisputable) together with 3D printing it is very likely to be a big success. We just need that other powerhouse of design in Northern Italy from Milan to embrace 3D printing and it will get very interesting in terms of the products we see being made. Like a mini “renaissance”.

Ce n’est peut-être pas surprenant puisque les français bénéficient d’une excellente réputation en beaux-arts et en design. La mode et la haute-couture sont un énorme marché en France et les français y excellent. Bien sûr, ils sont aussi renommés pour avoir créé certains des meilleurs systèmes de CAO et de modélisation au monde. La plupart des avions et bien des modèles de voitures ont été conçus sur CATIA de Dassault Systèmes, et EUCLID de Matra Datavision a eu une forte influence sur l’industrie de modélisation. Bref, pour revenir à notre sujet, nous voyons de plus en plus de boutiques d’impression 3D émerger en France, à la manière des USA, rattrapant rapidement le retard sur le Royaume-Uni, la Hollande et l’Allemagne. C’est sûr, la concurrence devient de plus en plus serrée sur le marché de l’impression en 3D.
Si vous ajoutez un talent en conception (c’est indéniable) avec l’impression en 3D, le résultat sera très certainement un succès. Il suffit que cet autre foyer générateur de créateurs qu’est l’Italie du Nord adopte l’impression 3D, et ça deviendra très intéressant en terme de modèles proposés sur le marché. Comme une petite renaissance.
