Modio Inc. has launched a new mobile application for 3D printing. Attendees at the Maker Faire Bay Area conference in San Mateo, California definitely gave it the thumbs up.
This cool application for the ipad allows users to design a range of 3D action toys, creatures and characters; then transfer the model to any 3D printer. The application is currently only available on iPad but before long we should see an Android based version to support other tablets.
Speaking recently to Kimberly Losey a marketing representative of Modio, it was clear just how excited the company is about its new mobile design and 3D printing application.
“We were excited to have shown the Modio application at the Maker Faire conference. Since then we are getting lots of interest and wow! reviews. The software is intuitive, easy to learn and that is what makes it special.”
Continuing on, she said,
“the Modio iPad application has been developed to avoid needing supports for 3D printing. You just design and 3D print your character or creature. It also allows you to scale components and layout of all of the parts on the 3D printer’s bed. This makes life a lot easier. You can also choose the type of finish to use for the components. You don’t need to be an competent 3D modeller to come up with some superb characters based on our library of templates. Being able to then put your designs for a Ninja, Knight, Scorpion etc into the real world is just fantastic. 3D printing has really opened up the market for us.”
At 3DPrintWise we agree wholeheartedly. This is exactly the type of application needed. Ordinary folk can design and then go onto make interesting things. It certainly lowers the barrier to those who can’t spend weeks learning complex solid modelling software but still wish to dabble in design and 3D printing.
