Kickstarter has been at the forefront of funding new innovative 3D printer startups and with no exception it has produced the goods for developing the Micro 3D. A super small, cheap and compact little 3D printer from M3D. In fact it only took 11 minutes for funding of $50,000 to be achieved which was the company’s initial goal. They have since gone onto raise over $320,000 in a very short space of time with 1250 backers sinking their cash into this project.
A 3D Printer For Consumers
The goal according to M3D (Michael Armani and David Jones) was to create a perfect 3D printer for consumers.
Effectively, M3D are bringing the “plug and play” concept to 3D printing and at an incredibly low price of somewhere around $200 retail. That makes it completely affordable and cheaper than buying an iphone. Yes, cheaper than an ipad too.
According to the company, when you try to define what a perfect consumer oriented 3D printer would look like, this 3D printer fits that definition very well. It’s small, cheap and as importantly it is easy to use.
The kickstarter pitch for this crowdfunding campaign is very succinct and gets to the point:
“It is the most affordable 3D printer that can be used right out of the box. Perfect for beginners and experts alike, just plug in the printer, download or create models, hit print, and watch your custom creations form right before your eyes”.
The company is hoping to start shipping the Micro between August 2014 and March 2015. At 3DPrintWise, we can’t wait to see them on the supermarket shelves.
As we all know, it is not the size that counts but how you use it!
