Looks like one of the crew has been making dinosaurs with his Makerbot 2 Replicator. JerryLePore just sent over a bunch of photos of his latest 3D printing project. He clearly has a passion for prehistoric times after watching a few Godzilla movies or was it Jurassic Park? Anyway, it is a bigger job than it looks with a lot of assembly work to do after 3D printing the parts themselves. Jerry wanted to try out the new dinosaur 3D print from Makerbot’s digital store – he likes a challenge and the Loctite glue in the corner of the photo was necessarily cropped out.
There is an article and video on the blog a few weeks back about 3D printing this model. It is really nice to see someone who is not part of Makerbot, produce this 3D print, assemble it and send on the photos as proof.
For a bit of fun we thought to make a ‘black and white’ for one of the images sent over. Makes the T-Rex look as if it belongs in an old museum like the Natural History in London’s South Kensington. In fact, it is reminiscent of those old specimen photos taken with a Kodak Brownie from the 1960s.
On a serious note, just imagine what 3D printing is doing right now for palaeontologists who can easily fill in the missing gaps and try out different ideas for missing pieces of skeletons.
